"The Self Destruct Button" ¾·~¾Þ¦u
George suspects an anesthesiologist of drinking on the job, and Alex treats a former schoolmate who mutilates himself.
Derek and Meredith try (unsuccessfully) to be discreet as they spend the night together at Meredith's house, but their haggard appearance speaks volumes to everyone - including Bailey, who warns Meredith to end the relationship. Meanwhile George suspects an anesthesiologist of drinking on the job but is reluctant to speak up about it, Alex treats a former schoolmate who finds honor in self-mutilation, Izzie's boyfriend takes extreme measures in order for them to spend more time together, and Cristina seems to be battling a case of the flu.

The BMW M5 has a specification that reads like a Formula 1 car ¡V a V10 engine, a 7 speed gearbox and capable of more than 200mph. It can safely lay claim to being one of the best cars in the world. Tiff Needell tests it, by driving from the UK to the famous Pau circuit in the South of France. Just how good can a four door family saloon be on the track?
Tom Ford tests the world¡¦s maddest car ¡V the Ariel Atom. Assembled by three men in a sleepy village in Somerset, incredibly it is one of the fastest vehicles ever made. It amounts to little more than some tubing mounted on four wheels, and has no doors, no windscreen and no bodywork. Amazingly, it accelerates to 60mph in just 3.2 seconds, quicker than the world¡¦s fastest car the McLaren F1.
Jon Bentley investigates the next big issue in car safety - ¡¥Compatibility¡¦. The problem arises when two cars collide and their bumpers don¡¦t line up, for example when a large 4x4 hits a small hatchback. It¡¦s an accident that¡¦s going to become more and more commonplace as off-roaders and city runabouts become ever more popular. In a dramatic reconstruction, Jon demonstrates the horrific damage that is caused and highlights what the potential solutions could be.
Vicki Butler-Henderson pits two rich man¡¦s track cars against each other: the Noble M400 and the Mitsubishi Evo FQ400 on a track.

Explorer Bruce Parry is deep in unexplored jungle as he travels to West Papua to meet a tribe rumoured to be cannibals. The Kombai people are hunter-gatherers, with no history of living in villages, and who still use stone tools. They¡¦re not bad with bows and arrows either, as Bruce discovers when he is suddenly surrounded by locals, all with arrow tips pointing at him. A gift of tobacco, helped by Bruce joining them in getting naked, soon makes them more at ease.
Bruce is soon living in a tree house with a family, joining in with their hunts, attempting to go barefoot through the thorny jungle and extracting pulp from a sago palm ¡V the Kombai¡¦s staple diet ¡V which Bruce likens to eating chalk.
Despite communication difficulties, they are all soon sharing jokes, as the Kombai family push grubs into Bruce¡¦s ears and giggle at his tears when he has a sago thorn pushed through his nose.
But his biggest surprise is listening to the calm description of how one of his hosts killed and ate ¡§witches¡¨ from another clan, to end the terror of evil spirits. ¡§I¡¦ve never before been able to see beyond the horror of the act,¡¨ says Bruce of this cannibalism. ¡§I equated that custom with aggression. But you wouldn¡¦t find people more welcoming, gentle and loving.¡¨

A teenager thinks he has found the perfect solution to being grounded as he checks out the people in a condo next door through his telescope. However, the fun stops when he catches sight of a body hanging at the end of a rope.
Horatio and Yelina find Carlos Garza hanging from his loft as if on display. Calleigh arrives with the information that he is an anesthesiologist at a nearby cosmetic surgery clinic. While examining how tight the knot was used to tie the rope, Delko surmises that it was likely the good doctor didn¡¦t do it himself since suicide victims usually leave it much looser ¡V and let gravity do the work. Speedle adds to that assumption as he discovers evidence that point to the door being kicked in ¡V a splintered door lock, and scuff marks on the door. The truth is clear: they¡¦ve got a murder ¡V and a cover up.
While performing the autopsy, Alexx finds marks on the victim¡¦s neck that show he was strangled first, then hung to make it appear like a suicide. Her investigation also turns up some silicone gel on his thigh. Since it¡¦s used to prevent scarring after liposuction, they simply have to refer to his client roster to find their first suspect ¡V Roxanne Price.
A cosmetic surgery junkie, Roxanne had given the doctor a ¡§house call¡¨ the night before he died. She says he had it tough the last few days because a patient had just died on him. Later, Delko and Calleigh make the deduction that since the knots used were nautical by nature and since the dead patient had a husband who happens to work at a Marina - all signs point to a likely suspect.
Delko and Calleigh find Brad Foster less than sympathetic about Dr. Garza¡¦s fate as he blames Garza and his clinic co-workers for Mrs. Foster¡¦s death. Unfortunately for Foster, the combination of his occupation and the fact that he¡¦s got some suspicious scuffs on his shoes stack the deck ¡V not in his favor. However, as Horatio interrogates him, Foster seems much more concerned with finding the truth behind his wife¡¦s death than the question of his own innocence. So, when Horatio suggests they have one of their medical examiners take a look at her case, Foster agrees to volunteer his DNA to eliminate himself from suspicion.
After an initial investigation, Alexx tells Horatio that she suspects the previous medical examiner may have missed something on the Sara Foster case. Foster clearly died of shock during surgery, but the cause of her complications and how they were handled leave more than a few unanswered questions. Unfortunately Alexx is unable to answer these questions without exhuming the body for another autopsy. This means they need to find some corroborating evidence to support a court order - and they need to talk to the cosmetic surgeon who was operating on Sara Foster when she died.
Horatio and Calleigh interview Dr. Keith Winters, the surgeon in question. Winters thinks they are there to talk to him about Garza, but Horatio and Calleigh are more intent on investigating the cause of Sara Foster¡¦s death. After some mild protestations on Garza¡¦s behalf, Winters summons the clinic¡¦s nurse, Debbie Morbach to retrieve the surgical log and data.
That data reveals that after Foster went into shock, a full five minutes passed before anything was done to correct the problem. Corroborating evidence successfully achieved, Sara Foster¡¦s body can be exhumed. And with it, the truth behind not just one ¡V but two deaths - may be unearthed.

UNDERWATER FORENSICS
The Florida State University¡¦s Underwater Crime Scene Investigation Program has been designed to provide advanced training to forensically trained divers, enabling them to use the most advanced equipment available in order to provide better evidence. Although terrestrial crime scene procedures have been stringent for many years, underwater crime scenes and evidence collection have lagged behind with the availability of efficient tools and procedures. Now, underwater forensics has caught up. A scene can be located, searched and evidence collected in much the same manner as on land. We will see how a dive team operates in an underwater crime scene and look at the latest technologies available today.
NEW TEETH
For most people a trip to the dentist can be a harrowing experience. But thanks to Dr Kazue Yamagishi and his colleagues in Japan, no longer will we have to endure the pain of the dentists drill in order to keep our teeth healthy. A revolutionary new toothpaste that allows for rapid tooth repair is delighting those bound for the dentist in Japan and could make drilling a thing of the past.
MINDBALL
Mindball is the latest in games, in which you literally use the power of your mind. The game is based on the traditional two-person table game, like air hockey, but instead of using a paddle to shoot the puck to score a goal, the opponents use brainwaves to score the goals. Each player wears a headband fitted with electrodes that act as biosensors and these in turn measure the electrical signals in the person¡¦s brain. Sounds like something out of a science fiction book, but Matt shows us it¡¦s the real deal.
SMARTGATE
With more and more people traveling to Australia each year and security paramount, customs officers at Australian airports will need all the help they can get checking those entering the country. A system that could help identify travelers would be a great help and the Smartgate is just that. The system compares your passport photo with digital images taken by three cameras, noting such things as your bone structure, length of your nose, and the distance between your eyes. No longer will you have a customs officer staring at you to check if you look the same as your passport.
CARVER
It¡¦s not a car, and it¡¦s not a motorbike. It¡¦s an ingenious cross between the two, producing a super small, super light vehicle that tilts around corners like a bike and gives the performance of a car. Based on 650cc motor, Carver has developed a unique tilt mechanism to let the vehicle cruise around corners. Steer it like a car and the Carver will bank like a motorcycle. The Carver has top speed of 190 km/h and a 0-100 km acceleration of 8.2 seconds.
4D ULTRASOUND
Hayden introduces us to Professor Stuart Campbell in London who has helped to develop the latest in ultrasound technology, a 4D ultrasound. While the traditional ultrasound produces 2D images, this latest innovation provides detailed 3D images as well as recording foetal movement in real time giving a 4th dimension. Professor Campbell hopes it will shed light on some diseases as well as allow diagnosis of developmental problems.
LOVE DETECTOR
Looking for love but need a sure fire way of finding it? Love Detector may be the answer. The ¡§Love Detector¡¨ is computer software that analyses different aspects of your voice. The technology utilizes Layered Voice Technology, to see if the person on the other end of the phone is excited, embarrassed or maybe ¡§in love¡¨. Just install the software on your PC, hook it up to a phone adapter and dial away. If phone dating isn¡¦t your thing and you prefer face-to-face contact, you may want to bar-hop with the PDA version!

Paramedics respond to a 911 call at the suburban home of Ray Lester, who answers the door frantic and covered in blood. He leads the paramedics to his wife, Becky, who¡¦s laying face-up on the stairs. The paramedics track through the pools of blood as they attempt to save her, but they¡¦re too late ¡V she¡¦s dead.
Grissom and Catherine arrive, and ask Ray what took him so long to call 911 ¡V because the partially dry blood pools indicate the accident happened several hours earlier. Ray says that he and his wife were sitting by the pool when his daughter (from his first marriage) called, asking to speak to Becky privately. When Becky left to take the call inside, Ray claims he passed out in his chair, and when he woke up and went inside, his wife was on the stairs, covered in blood; he assumed that she fell. However the CSIs soon determine that the victim¡¦s body position and lack of blood smudges on the walls are inconsistent with a fall, and examination of blood spatter patterns suggests that Becky was bludgeoned.
When the CSIs take Ray¡¦s bloody clothing into evidence, they find bite marks on his chest. Ray explains that his wife was into sexual biting and that he indulged her. But as the CSIs probe deeper, the sordid relationship between this couple begins to unfold into a world of fetishes, extramarital affairs, and blackmail.
And when further investigation reveals that Ray¡¦s first wife also died in an accident on the stairs, the CSIs answer the question ¡V does murder, like lightening, never strike twice?

As the departure point for millions of Chinese exiles, Guangdong (also known as Canton) was the place of origin for most of the Chinese food known in the world today. In this hour-long voyage of discovery, celebrated New Zealand chef, Peter Gordon, discovers the roots of one of the world¡¦s great cuisines - Cantonese. In the northern mountains, he cooks succulent spiced pork over an open fire in a Yao tribal house. After picking star anise from the trees, he walks the rice fields of the Pearl River Delta and makes rice liquor with a local farmer. Moving on to the ancient former capital of Foshan, Peter explores the health benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine with one of the country¡¦s leading doctors and samples some exquisite, yet healthy, dishes.
In Guangzhou, the current capital of the Cantonese people, Peter joins international dragon boat racing crews for a strength-giving feast. After morning exercises with ladies in the park, he learns to make delicate dim sum breakfast dumplings with a leading expert. At the fabled market of Qingping, he takes his life into his hands with fried cobra.
Chaozhou is a city famed for its chefs; here Peter meets one of its finest and together they create a beautiful and artistic lobster dish, before hitting the streets to try some of the most varied and unusual street food, including fresh fried rice noodles and eel. Across the province border in Fujian, Peter visits the tea mountains around An¡¦xi before experiencing the organized chaos of the Tea Capital Market, where a kilo of the best can cost thousands of dollars. He then visits the glittering city of Xiamen, home to experimental Cantonese fusion cooking and some of the most expensive dishes in China. His journey ends back in Daya Bay, where he joins the fishing fleet for a traditional wedding feast of fresh grouper steamed with ginger, scallions, and yellow beans.

Our crew of intrepid travellers venture to the corners of the globe to uncover the most spectacular festivals the year has to offer. Justine Shapiro travels to Taiwan to experience Chinese New Year in three very different ways, while Zay Harding is trying out the weird and wonderful delights at the Wild Foods festival in New Zealand, as well as the national sheep shearing contest and a maori regatta. Strange festivals include the Wife Carrying festival in Finland and the Birdman of Bognor in the UK, where people throw themselves off the pier in varying standards of flying devices to see if anyone can defy gravity! Historic festivals like civil war re-enactments in the USA and wine festivals in France bring heritage and tradition to this tour of world festivals, and Ian finds out exactly how cold you can get by Ice Hole Swimming in Russia! Glastonbury in England proves to be the muddiest music concert in the world, and the Festival of Giants in France proves to be one of the tallest! Every culture, religion and country has their own way of celebrating, and we showcase some of the wackiest and most wonderful in Great Festivals 3.

From Australia and West Africa, to Cyprus, Israel and Egypt, giant locust swarms have been big news in the past month. Devouring everything in their path, these swarms damage livelihoods, devastate entire regions and challenge local authorities in how to deal with them and their aftermath. In this new show from National Geographic Television & Film we take a look at the impact of locust swarms in West Africa this year and, using scientific research, ask if their disappearance in North America in the last century could hold the key to stopping these swarms today.
When we hear the phrase ¡§natural disaster¡¨, many may picture a tornado¡¦s terror-inducing funnel cloud, or the violent fury of a hurricane. But imagine billions of insects descending on your neighborhood and devouring everything in sight ¡V from the smallest blade of grass to the shirt off your back.
For countless people around the world, that horror is a reality. Experts in West Africa have declared war as the worst locust plague in nearly a generation is sweeping across the region. More than 200 swarms, containing billions of insects, are gobbling up virtually everything in their path. With the largest swarms capable of consuming an estimated 80,000 tons of vegetation a day ¡V millions of Africans face possible famine.
Today, only one inhabited continent is untouched by the ravages of these ravenous insects: North America. But that wasn¡¦t always the case. In the summer of 1875, an estimated 3.5 trillion Rocky Mountain locusts swept over the plains in a dark cloud estimated to have covered an astounding 198,000 square miles. It was the largest swarm ever recorded, inflicting, in today¡¦s dollars, a staggering $116 billion in damages. The greatest minds of the time tried to figure out how to put down this locust uprising, but no one seemed capable of stopping them. Then, within just a few years, this seemingly unstoppable force did something simply unfathomable. It disappeared.
What happened? It¡¦s a mystery that has puzzled scientists for over a century, including University of Wyoming entomologist Jeff Lockwood. After studying the surprising disappearance of the Rocky Mountain locust for over a decade, Lockwood¡¦s on the verge of cracking this century-old entomological murder mystery. It¡¦s an investigation that will take him to Wyoming¡¦s icy peaks in search of an ancient insect cadaver, with the hope that DNA analysis may finally bring answers. If he succeeds, he may also find the key to ending locust swarms ¡V like those currently devastating West Africa ¡V forever.
While Lockwood races to find out the fate of the Rocky Mountain locust, experts in Africa battle to contain their current invasion. Using all the high-tech tools and weaponry at their disposal, from an experimental fungus that kill locusts without harming humans to aerial attack planes armed with pesticide, modern science joins forces with man in this battle against the bug. Meanwhile, villagers use every means at their disposal, from setting fires to banging pots, in a desperate but futile effort to save their fields.
Could the mystery of the Rocky Mountain locust hold clues to stopping today¡¦s swarms? Was their extinction an ecological fluke or a case study for winning the swarm wars? And is North America forever safe ¡V or primed for a future nightmare? Combining historical recreation and powerful footage of a natural disaster in the making, The Perfect Swarm tells a chilling tale of how a tiny creature, in awesome numbers, has plagued human history ¡V and may return to ravage us again.
